In this book 'Between Yesterday and Tomorrow', Rabbi Eliezer Berkovits offers a lucid and courageous analysis of the state of Judaism and of the world during the years that were profoundly marked by the Shoah. During the tormented times we are currently living through, his thoughts, based on the long-standing Jewish tradition, are still rich in very valuable teachings. This book is dedicated to the memory of the innocent victims - men, women and children - massacred by ruthless torturers during the pogrom of October 7th, 2023.
Rabbi Berkovits (1908 - 1992) received his rabbinical training first under Rabbi Akiva Glasner, and then at the Hildesheimer Rabbinical Seminary in Berlin as a disciple of Rabbi Yechiel Weinberg, and received his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Berlin. He served in the rabbinate in Berlin (1934–1939), in Leeds, England (1940–1946), in Sydney, Australia (1946–50), and in Boston (1950–1958). In 1958 he became chairman of the department of Jewish philosophy of the Hebrew Theological College in Skokie. At the age of 67, he immigrated to Israel in 1976 where he taught until his death in 1992... | ![]() |
